Ground beef recipes: supper dish, chilli con carne, with corn, savoury crumble, meatball pudding

1. Recipe for ground beef supper dish


1 chopped onion
1 tablespoon fat/oil
250 g (1/2 lb) ground/minced beef
1 can cream of celery soup
1 tablespoon tomato sauce
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 sliced tomato
few sliced mushrooms
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
little grated cheese


Fry onion in fat. Add mince to the pan and continue frying.
Add soup and sauces. Cook for 15 minutes.
Pour into casserole and cover with sliced tomatoes and mushrooms.
Sprinkle crumbs and cheese on top.
Brown under grill.


2. Chilli con carne with ground beef recipe


15 ml (1 tablespoon) oil
1 large onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, crushed
750 g (1 1/2 lbs) ground/minced beef
2.5-5ml (half to 1 teaspoon) chilli powder
1 green pepper, chopped
397 g (14 oz) can tomatoes
150 ml (1/4 pint) beef stock
1 teaspoon sugar
30 ml (2 tablespoons) tomato paste
salt and pepper
439 g (15 1/2 oz) can red kidney beans, drained


Fry onion and garlic in the oil.
Add the mince (ground beef) and chilli powder and brown well.
Stir in the tomatoes, green pepper, stock, sugar and tomato paste.
Season to taste and bring to the boil.
Simmer for 20-30 minutes.
Add the beans and heat through.
Serve on a bed of plain boiled rice.

3. Corn and ground beef recipe


250 g (8 oz) spaghetti
1 tablespoon fat/oil
1 chopped onion
1 chopped green pepper
250 g (8 oz) ground/minced beef
1 table spoon tomato paste
1 tin sweetcorn
salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup grated cheese


Cook spaghetti and drain.
Fry onion in fat, add meat and then green pepper to pan.
When nicely fried, add tomato paste and sweetcorn.
Adjust seasoning and stir in spaghetti.
Pour into casserole and sprinkle cheese on top.
Bake for 30 minutes at 180°C (350°F)

4. Recipe for ground beef with savoury crumble

500 g (1 lb) minced/ground beef
1 onion, finely chopped
30 g (1 oz) dripping or oil
salt and pepper
1 small can tomato soup
125 g (4 oz) plain flour
pinch dry mustard
60 g (2 oz) margarine


Fry onion in dripping and add a pinch of salt and pepper.
Add mince and continue cooking.
Stir in soup and pour into a casserole.
Sieve the flour with seasonings.
Rub in the margarine until mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
Sprinkle over the meat and bake for 30 minutes at 180°C (350°F)

5. Recipe for ground beef meatball savoury pudding


625 g (1 1/2 lb) ground/minced beef
1/2 pkt white onion soup
60 ml (1/4 cup) Chilli, chutney or tomato sauce
2.5 ml (1/2 teaspoon) mixed herbs

Mix all ingredients together well and form into 24 small meatballs.
Place in well greased 30 cm x 20 cm (12 inch x 8 inch) baking dish.


Savoury pudding:

200 g (1 1/2 cup) flour
7.5 ml (1 1/2 teaspoons) baking powder
5 ml (1 teaspoon) salt
4 eggs
375 ml ( 1 1/2 cups) milk
45 ml ( 3 tablespoons) melted butter

Beat eggs till frothy, blend in milk and butter.
Sift flour, baking powder and salt together.
Add to egg mixture and beat until smooth. Pour over prepared meatballs.
Bake for 50-60 minutes at  180°C (350°F).

Serve with onion gravy made with balance of packet of soup.
